This project had little restrictions. It only called for “something with dust”. I explored how dust is contingent on its context and set myself the task of portraying it in a whole new light.

When looked at under a microscope, dust particles depict their own world. You quickly lose all sense of proportion and can easily get lost in the images. Especially electron microscopy images have a distinct look. Colorful shapes, matte surfaces and high contrast lighting almost give a sense of cleanliness.

I translated and scaled the 2D images into 3D shapes. Soft fabrics and a velvet finish help recreate the look & feel of electron microscopy images.

This collection of objects is inspired by dust particles such as pollen, hair and skin flakes. Due to the change of context and scale, dust can be viewed in a totally different light.
